Derby Teacher at National Gallery
Summary:
Alice McWilliams from Derby Academy in Hingham was among 36 educators attending the
National Gallery's 2004 Teacher Institute on Storytelling and the Visual Arts held in Washington, D.C. in July.
The two six-day seminars brought together teachers from across the country to explore the connection of storytelling to learning and the ways teachers can use art objects with storytelling activities in the classroom.
The program featured an intensive hands-on tutorial in which participants told their own stories about art by creating short electronic movies-a format with special appeal to middle and high school students.
